We've Got a Great History

From bold beginnings in the late '80s to carefully considered updates in recent years, Ropata Village has always stood apart. Designed by renowned New Zealand architect Roger Walker, our village was envisioned as more than just a place to live—it was created to inspire. 1988

Roger Walker Begun Designing

In 1988 Roger Walker was commissioned to design Ropata Village, a retirement village and medical centre in Lower Hutt. This project provided an opportunity for Walker to create a modern landmark that showcased his unique approach to architecture. “Ropata Village, Lower Hutt, 1988: is Walker’s rebellion against the dreariness of the common atmosphere of commercial buildings.”

1990

Construction Was Completed

The construction of Ropata was completed. The complex features multilevel structures that integrate with their surroundings in an fresh, interesting way, reflecting Walker's commitment to both buildings standing out and blending into their natural environment.

2016

Internal Alterations Were Drawn Up

Plans for internal alterations to Ropata Lodge, part of the Ropata Village complex, were documented. These modifications aimed to update and improve the facilities while respecting the original architectural design.

Ropata Village remains a significant example of Roger Walker's contribution to New Zealand architecture, embodying his philosophy of creating functional yet visually engaging spaces.

A number of improvements have been done to Ropata Lodge including complete inside and outside repaint, large number of modernizations in the rooms and bathrooms to ensure they are brought up to a contemporary standard while maintaining the essence of Roger Walker’s design choices, as well as new carpet and vinyl upgrades.

Ropata Lodge has been proudly family own and operated since the end of 2014.
